Morrison Watson

Morrison Watson was born at Montrose in 1846. He moved to Edinburgh as a child and studied at the University of Edinburgh, obtaining his MD in 1867. He undertook further study in Berlin and Vienna before returning to Edinburgh as Assistant Demonstrator, and later Senior Demonstrator, of anatomy at the university. In 1872 he became a Fellow of the College and in 1874 was appointed Professor of Anatomy at Owens College, Manchester, a position he held until his death on 25 March 1885. He published extensively on human anatomy, including 'The termination of the thoracic duct on the right side', published in the Journal of Anatomy in 1872. He also had a strong interest in zoology and published 'On the anatomy of the Spheniscidae' as part of the reports of the HMS Challenger expedition.
