Martin Barry

Martin Barry was born in Hampshire in 1802. He studied medicine in Edinburgh, London, Paris, Erlangen and Berlin before receiving his MD from Edinburgh in 1833. He undertook further study in Heidelberg with a particular focus on microscopy. Barry was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1840, taught physiology at St Thomas's Hospital in 1843 and later worked as house surgeon at the Royal Maternity Hospital in Edinburgh. He died in Suffolk in 1855.
