John Thatcher

John Thatcher lived from circa 1785 to 1853. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1804 to 1805 and became a member of the Royal Medical Society in 1804. He qualified MD in 1806 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1817. Thatcher lectured in midwifery and diseases of women and children and in 1825 petitioned the University of Edinburgh to make midwifery an essential part of the medical curriculum. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1828.
