John Stevens

John Stevens was born in Dunbarney in 1859. He graduated MB CM with first-class honours from the University of Edinburgh in 1884 and MD with a gold medal in 1887. He served as Resident Physician at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary under Sir Andrew Douglas Maclagan and undertook postgraduate study at the University of Vienna. He established a practice in Edinburgh and worked as Physician to the Western Dispensary. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1893 and was elected a Fellow in 1894. He was an active member of the British Medical Association from 1892 until his death in 1930 and served as President of the Edinburgh Branch.
