John Shand

John Shand was born in 1823 and studied in Edinburgh, London, Paris and Heidelberg, graduating MD from Edinburgh in 1844. He worked at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as house surgeon and assistant pathologist and later as house surgeon at the Lock Hospital. He established practice in Kirkcudbright but, after illness, returned to Edinburgh, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1858. He died at 34 Albany Street, Edinburgh, in 1895.
