John Scott

John Scott was born in 1797, the youngest son of the Reverend James Scott, minister of Benholm, Kincardineshire. He was educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, and graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh on 1 August 1820. Between 1818 and 1823 he made three voyages to the East in the service of the East India Company, serving as surgeon's mate and later ship's surgeon. In 1845 he was appointed examining physician to the East India Company and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 4 February 1845. He died on 19 January 1859.
