John Ross Home Ross was born in Travancore, India, and trained in Edinburgh, earning his MB CM in 1886. He worked initially in Edinburgh as Clinical Assistant to the Dermatological Department of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and later as Physician to the Western Dispensary. In 1893 he moved to Rangoon, now Yangon, where he served as Physician at the Dufferin Hospital. He returned to England in 1900 and worked as a general practitioner in Lower Kingswood, Surrey, until his death in February 1939 aged seventy-four.
