John Robert Hume

John Robert Hume studied medicine at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh before serving as a military surgeon in the Peninsular War. He later obtained his MD from the University of St Andrews in 1816. He moved to London and became personal physician to the Duke of Wellington, and in 1836 was appointed a Metropolitan Commissioner in Lunacy. He later served as Inspector General of Hospitals and died in London in 1857.
