John Orr

James Orr, son of Professor James Orr DD, was born in Hawick in 1876. Orr began his education at Watson's College, before graduating MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1899. Orr became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1894. During the First World War Orr served in Egypt with the Royal Army Medical Corps. Orr worked closely with Sir James Mackenzie on his studies in cardiology. Orr, with Mackenzie, authored the book 'Principles of Diagnosis and Treatment of Heart Afflictions', which was published in its third edition in 1926. Orr served as President of the Fife Branch of the British Medical Association from 1931-32. He also held the position of Director of the James Mackenzie Institute for Clinical Research. James Orr died in St Andrews in March 1944.
