John Miller studied at the University of Edinburgh from 1803 to 1804 and graduated MD in 1805. His dissertation 'Disputatio medica inauguralis, de lacte humano' was published in 1805. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1807 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 5 February 1839.
