John Meikle

John Meikle was the son of Dr Robert Meikle of Douglas, Lanarkshire. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and at Surgeons' Hall, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1875 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1885. After working briefly as an assistant to his father and later to Dr Smith in Melrose, Roxburghshire, he entered a partnership with Dr Brown. He also served as Parochial Medical Officer for Melrose, Meltoun, and Bowden. He died in 1892.
