John Maule Sutton

John Maule Sutton was born in 1829, a great-grandson of Daniel Sutton, pioneer of smallpox inoculation. He studied at Queen's College Birmingham and St Thomas's Hospital, graduating MD from St Andrews in 1853. He became physician to Queen's Hospital Birmingham in 1863 and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Queen's College. He founded the Westhulme Hospital for Infectious Diseases in 1877 and served as mayor of Tenby on three occasions. He died on 20 January 1885.
