John Macnaught

John Macnaught was born in 1793 and obtained his MD from King's College Aberdeen in 1815, also becoming a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. That year he moved to Jamaica, where he practised for twenty-five years. In 1838 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. After returning to the UK he practised in Liverpool, serving as Vice-President and later President of the Liverpool Medical Institution. He was Honorary Physician to the Liverpool School for the Indigent Blind for twenty-five years and practised medicine for sixty-five years. He died in London in 1883 aged ninety.
