John Lermonth

Date of Fellowship admission: 29 November 1681
John Lermonth was one of the original twenty-one Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh when it was incorporated by royal charter on 29 November 1681. His name was written fifteenth on the charter. Lermonth received his medical degree from the University of Leiden in 1675. He served as a Censor of the College from 1684 and was among ten individuals appointed to a committee for collecting subscriptions and planning the management of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The committee hired a small house for receiving the sick poor and appointed twenty managers to oversee its operation.
Fellowship
The main qualification issued by the College, awarded regularly since the College’s foundation. This qualification was granted based on demonstrated breadth of experience and did not require an individual to pass a certain examination.
