John Josiah Douglas

John Josiah Douglas graduated BA and MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1889, earned his MD in 1897, and completed a Diploma in Public Health at the University of Oxford in 1902. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1893 and was elected a Fellow in 1894. He was also a member of the Edinburgh Medico-Chirurgical Society. His early posts included House Physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Medical Officer at the New Town Dispensary, followed by appointments at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and the Cancer Research Laboratory at the Middlesex Hospital. In 1895 he settled in Upper Norwood, where he served as Honorary Surgeon to the Norwood Cottage Hospital and Medical Officer to the Beulah Home for Boys. He died in 1935.
