John Huxham was born around 1692 in Harberton, Devon to a butcher. He studied medicine at Leiden before obtaining his MD from Rheims in 1717. Huxham became a fellow of the Royal Society in 1739. His most significant work was 'An Essay on Fevers and their Various Kinds', published in 1750. He died in Plymouth in 1768.
