John Hutton Cooper

Sir John Hutton Cooper was born in 1765 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. He studied medicine in Edinburgh in 1794 and was a Member of the Royal Medical Society. He received his MD from the University of St Andrews and in 1796 petitioned to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He was married three times and settled in Bath. He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Somerset Militia and was appointed physician to George III's son in 1812, serving in this post until his death. Cooper was also involved in politics and won the parliamentary seat for Dartmouth in 1825, returning again the following year. He died in Brighton on 24 December 1828.
