John Hutton

Date of Fellowship admission: 29 November 1681
John Hutton was one of the original twenty-one Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh when it was incorporated by royal charter on 29 November 1681. His name was written thirteenth on the charter. Hutton received his medical degree from the University of Padua. He served as the first Treasurer of the College from 1681 but resigned from this post in May 1682, leaving Scotland. Hutton also contributed to the creation of the Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia.
Fellowship
The main qualification issued by the College, awarded regularly since the College’s foundation. This qualification was granted based on demonstrated breadth of experience and did not require an individual to pass a certain examination.
