John Drummond

John Drummond was born in Savannah-la-Mar, Jamaica, in 1744. He received an MD from the University of St Andrews in 1786 and served as surgeon to the 55th Regiment of Foot from 1784 to 1802. A plantation owner and slaveholder, Drummond was the subject of an Act of Parliament affording his mixed-race children the same legal rights as English subjects born of white parents. Drummond died in Jamaica in 1804.
