John Clarence Webster

John Clarence Webster was born in Canada and trained at the University of Edinburgh, graduating MB CM in 1888 and MD with a gold medal in 1891. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1892 and elected a Fellow in 1893. He practised in Edinburgh for several years, specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, and served as Assistant to the Professor of Midwifery at the University of Edinburgh and Assistant Lecturer at the Edinburgh School of Medicine. In 1899 he was appointed Chair of Obstetrics at Rush Medical College, Chicago. He returned to Canada in 1920 and devoted the remainder of his life to historical research and heritage preservation in New Brunswick. He was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1935.
