John Butter

John Butter was born in Devon in 1791. He obtained his MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1820 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1822. He worked initially as a military surgeon in South Devon before establishing a medical practice in Plymouth, where he co-founded the Plymouth Eye Dispensary. Butter died in Plymouth in 1877.
