John Burnet received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh on 7 August 1719 and was admitted as a Fellow three days later. College minutes record that Burnet paid Dr Cochrane, Treasurer, 200 merks Scots as half of his dues and gave bond to pay the remaining half. Admission without examination cost 500 merks.
