John Batty Tuke Jr.

John Batty Tuke Jr. was born in Edinburgh and trained in the city, earning his MB CM in 1881 and his MD in 1890. He worked as Physician to the University clinical wards before specialising in mental health, first as Assistant Medical Officer at the Royal Lunatic Asylum, Montrose, and later as Resident Clinical Assistant at the West Riding Asylum, Wakefield. He returned to Edinburgh to work with his father, Sir John Batty Tuke, at Saughton Hall Asylum and later as Superintendent of New Saughton Hall near Polton, Midlothian. He also served as Physician for Mental Diseases at the New Town Dispensary and as Examiner in Psychology for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He died in London in 1920.
