Johann Gottlieb Walter

Johann Gottlieb Walter was born 1 July 1734 in Königsberg, Prussia. He studied medicine in Königsberg before obtaining a medical degree from the Universitas Francofurtensis in 1757. He later studied under Johann Friedrich Meckel the Elder in Berlin and became a professor of anatomy there in 1774. His anatomical collection contained nearly 3,000 objects and was purchased by King Frederick William III of Prussia for the Anatomical Museum of the University of Berlin He died in Berlin on 4 January 1818.
