James Wood

James Wood, the son of Walter Wood, a merchant who traded prominently in Denmark, earned his MD in 1776 from the University of Edinburgh with a thesis on Emetics. In December 1777 he was enlisted as the Regimental Surgeon for the newly raised 74th Regiment of Foot (Argyllshire Highlanders). After the regiment disbanded following the end of the American Revolutionary War, Wood returned to Britain and became a Fellow of this College. Wood's uncle was Alexander Wood, FRCSE. He spent time in London and Yorkshire before settling in Perthshire, where he lived until he died in 1727/8.
