James Thomas Brown Watt

James Thomas Brown Watt was born on 4 October 1784 in Trelawny, Jamaica, the son of John Lindsay Watt I, a medical practitioner and plantation owner. He obtained his MD from the University of Edinburgh on 24 June 1809. Between 1817 and 1826 he owned the Woodlands estate in St Mary, Jamaica, where up to 120 enslaved people were registered. He also acted as estate attorney for several neighbouring plantations. Watt was admitted a Licentiate of the College on 19 December 1818 and elected a Fellow on 4 May 1819, and later became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 1828.
