James Spence

James Spence studied at the University of St Andrews, receiving an MD in 1764. He practised in Dunkeld and later in Durham. After his wife's death in 1777 he moved to Guildford, where he continued in practice. He died in 1786 after a fall from a horse. His daughter Elizabeth Isabella Spence became a novelist.
