James Proud Johnson

James Proud Johnson was born in 1784, the son of James Johnson of Monksfield and his second wife, Susannah Proud. He received his MD from the University of St Andrews in 1805 and was admitted a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1810. By 1814 he was practising in Shrewsbury and was admitted an Extra-Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London that same year. He was appointed physician to the Salop Infirmary in 1814, a post he held until his resignation in 1839. He served as High Sheriff of Montgomeryshire in 1836 and as a magistrate for both Montgomeryshire and Salop. He died in Brussels in 1860.
