James Murdoch

James Murdoch was born on 14 July 1785, the son of James Murdoch of Craigow, Kinross. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh between 1804 and 1805 and again between 1806 and 1810, but did not take a degree. He was awarded an MD from the University of St Andrews on 9 July 1814. Murdoch was admitted a Licentiate of the College on 2 August 1814 and elected a Fellow on 1 August 1815. He practised in Edinburgh until 1822, when he emigrated to Van Diemen's Land, Tasmania, where he became a prominent practitioner and farmer. He died on 22 April 1848.
