James Clark

James Clark was born circa 1737 in Aberdeen, and spent much of his career as a surgeon in Roseau on the island of Dominica, where he ran a practice in partnership with Andrew Fillan. He was expert on tropical diseases, and one of the first doctors to observe the link between yellow fever and mosquitos. Clark owned a number of slave plantations, both jointly and solely. Clark returned to Britain in about 1810, settling in London where he lived until his death in 1819.
