James Andrew

James Andrew was born in 1811 at the East India Company Military Seminary in Addiscombe, Surrey, the son of the Reverend James Andrew. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and later at the University of Cambridge, where he received his MD on 2 July 1839. Andrew became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 5 May 1840 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 6 January 1845. He practised in Edinburgh and served as medical officer to the Royal Public Dispensary and New Town Dispensary, as well as ordinary physician to the Royal Infirmary from 1846 to 1856. He died on 1 December 1859 aged forty-eight.
