Isaac Wilson

Isaac Wilson was born in 1757, the son of John Wilson of Drumrusk, Armagh. He obtained his MD from the University of St Andrews on 23 December 1796. He was appointed Physician of the Fleet in the Royal Navy on 17 November 1805. Wilson was admitted a Licentiate of the College on 7 May 1816 and a Fellow on 6 August 1816. In 1816 he also became Physician to the Naval Hospital at Plymouth. He served as domestic physician to the Duke and Duchess of Kent and officiated at the birth of Queen Victoria on 24 May 1819. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1831 and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1834. He was knighted in 1838, the first knighthood conferred by Queen Victoria. He retired in 1840 as Director and Senior Physician of Haslar Naval Hospital and died at Bognor on 12 December 1844.
