Hugh Lathrop Murray

Hugh Lathrop Murray was born in Victoria, Australia, c.1869. He was educated in Australia at Queen's College, Melbourne, and the University of Melbourne before travelling to Scotland to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated in 1892. After graduation he was appointed Resident Physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. In 1894 he became Medical Superintendent of the Edinburgh Provident Dispensary and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the same year. He returned to Australia in 1895 and established a medical practice in the suburbs of Melbourne. During the First World War he served as Regimental Medical Officer with Australian battalions in Egypt. After the war he took charge of physiotherapy at a hospital in Melbourne. He died in Melbourne in 1929.
