Herbert Tibbets became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 1865, having trained at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. His principal interest lay in the medical use of electricity. He served as Medical Officer for Electrical Treatment at the Hospital for Sick Children, London, and later as Medical Superintendent of the National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic. His publications include 'A handbook of medical electricity', published in 1877, and an English translation of 'Localised electrisation and its application to pathology and therapeutics' by Guillaume Duchenne de Boulogne.
