Henry Evans Holder

Henry Evans Holder III was born in Barbados in 1780, the son of the Reverend Henry Evans Holder II, a member of a Barbadian plantation family. He received his early medical education in Barbados before travelling to Britain. He obtained an MD from the University of St Andrews on 24 August 1801 and later from the University of Edinburgh in 1816. Holder was admitted a Licentiate of the College on 7 November 1815 and elected a Fellow on 6 February 1816. He inherited Joe's River plantation in Saint Joseph, Barbados, which he later sold. He practised as a physician at Durham Infirmary and died in Durham on 18 February 1817.
