Harold Sherman Ballantyne graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1897 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1908. He practised as a general practitioner in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Lasswade, Roslin and surrounding districts. He contributed the article 'Remarks on Duodenal Ulcer, with Notes of a Case' to the Edinburgh Medical Journal in 1903.
