Griffith Richard Jenkins became a Licentiate of the College in 1867 and a Fellow in 1869. He worked for a period at the Royal Free Hospital, Gray's Inn Road, London, but spent much of his career as a surgeon in the Royal Navy and was later attached to the British legation in Japan. In April 1863 he founded the Yokohama Public Hospital, the forerunner of the modern International Goodwill Hospital, and in 1864 he co-founded, with William Willis, the first pharmacy in Yokohama.
