George Matthew Robertson was born in 1864 and graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1885 and MD in 1913. He worked as Resident Physician at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Bethlem Royal Hospital in London, and the National Hospital in London. He was appointed Assistant Physician at the Morningside Asylum, Edinburgh, followed by posts at several Scottish asylums. In 1908 he returned to Edinburgh as Superintendent of the Morningside Asylum. He also established a number of nursing homes in Edinburgh for patients with less severe mental illness. He died in Edinburgh in 1932.
