George Mathieson Ogilvie

George Mathieson Ogilvie was born in Secunderabad, India, on 28 December 1818, the son of Major Ogilvie of the Madras Infantry. He received his MD from St Andrews in 1840 and was appointed Assistant Surgeon at the European General Hospital, Bombay in 1841. He served in a variety of posts in India, including in charge of the jails and dispensaries of Oude, and was Garrison Sanitary Commissioner during the siege of Lucknow in 1857. For his service he was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath. He was promoted Surgeon Major in 1861 and died suddenly at Suez on 26 October 1861.
