George Mackenzie

George Mackenzie received his medical degree from Marischal College, Aberdeen on 22 November 1703 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on 1 December 1704. He was associated with Heriot's Hospital and was appointed first physician to Queen Anne in 1714, though the appointment was not renewed by King George I. Mackenzie's appointment to Heriot's Hospital was secured through Dr Stevensone, who withdrew a 200 claim against the hospital in exchange for Mackenzie's succession. His appointment was later rescinded, and Dr Gilbert Rule, a Fellow and Presbyterian minister, was elected in his place in 1711. Mackenzie responded by publishing a pamphlet criticising the decision.
