George Harley

George Harley was born in East Lothian in 1829 and graduated MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1850. After working at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, he studied in Paris and then in Germany and Austria, undertaking research in medicine and chemistry. In 1855 he was appointed lecturer in practical physiology and histology at University College London. He supported Elizabeth Garrett in her medical training and died in London in 1896.
