George Douglas McRae

George Douglas McRae was born in Penicuik in 1874, the fourth son of Alexander Edwards McRae MD. He was educated at George Watson's College and the University of Edinburgh, graduating MB CM in 1895. He worked in Dundee, Devon, Northampton and Edinburgh before being appointed Senior Assistant Physician at the Royal Edinburgh Asylum, Morningside. He graduated MD in Edinburgh in 1907 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the same year. In 1908 he became Medical Superintendent of Ayr District Asylum, a post he held until retirement in 1939. He died in West Linton in 1943.
