George Alley

George Alley was born circa 1782. He studied medicine at the University of St Andrews, where he received his MD in 1807 on testimonials signed by John Longfield, James Bennet, Anthony Mann, William Hallaran and Francis Walsh. He joined the Army Medical Service in Ireland and served as second assistant surgeon in the Ordnance Medical Department in 1806. He resigned in 1808. Alley died in Fermoy, County Cork, in 1811 aged 29, reportedly of a malignant fever caught while attending the dispensary.
