Sir Frederick Norton Menzies was born in 1875. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating MD in 1903. He undertook postgraduate study in Vienna and Berlin and held resident appointments at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Hospital for Sick Children, London. He was awarded a Diploma in Public Health in 1905 and was appointed Demonstrator and Lecturer in Public Health at University College London in 1907. He later held a number of senior public health posts within local authorities and served as Inspector of Hospitals in North Wales. He died in London in 1949.
