Edwin Matthew

Edwin Matthew was born in Aberdeen. He studied at the University of Aberdeen, graduating MA in 1889, and worked as a teacher before commencing medical training. He graduated MB from the University of Edinburgh in 1897 and was awarded the MD degree in 1908. He served as House Physician at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, and was appointed Assistant Physician at the Royal Infirmary in 1909, becoming Physician in Charge of Wards in 1921, a post he held until 1936. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1902 and elected a Fellow in 1906. He represented the College on the General Medical Council for five years. He died in 1950.
