Edwin Bramwell

Edwin Bramwell was born in North Shields in 1873, the eldest son of Sir Byrom Bramwell, former President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He was educated at Cheltenham College and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1896. In 1900 he was admitted as a Member of both the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians of London. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps at the Second Scottish General Hospital, Craigleith, where he worked as a neurologist with responsibility for cases of shell shock. In 1919 he was appointed Physician to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He died in Edinburgh in 1952.
