Edward Napier Burnett

Edward Napier Burnett was born in 1872. He graduated MD from the University of Glasgow in 1908 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1913. He worked as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Newcastle and became an organiser of the Northumberland War Hospital during the First World War. In 1916 he was appointed Chairman of the Hospital Economy Committee of the War Office, coordinating military hospital expenditure. He was knighted in 1919 and appointed Director of Hospital Services to the Joint Council of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John in 1920, becoming Chief Executive Officer the following year. He died in Hampstead in 1923.
