Douglas Haig

Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig, was born 19 June 1861 to John Haig and Rachael Mackerras. He is best known for his role during WWI as commander of the First Army and then Commander-in-Chief, over which there is long-running controversy in regard to a number of his decisions. Following the war, he helped establish the Royal British Legion and the Royal British Legion Scotland. He was awarded honorary fellowship for the role he played during WWI. He died 29 January 1928.
