Dawson Fyers Duckworth Turner was born in Liverpool in 1857 and educated at Dalhousie University, Canada, and the University of Edinburgh, where he earned his MD in 1890. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the same year and was elected a Fellow in 1891, and was also a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of London. In 1895 he constructed the first X-ray apparatus in Edinburgh. He worked at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as an Assistant from 1896 and later became Head of the Electrical Department. He published widely and authored 'A Manual of Practical Medical Electricity', which went through four editions. He died in Godalming in December 1928.
