David James Brakenridge

David James Brakenridge was born in Edinburgh in 1839 and obtained his MD from Edinburgh in 1863. He held numerous posts in the city, including at the New Town Dispensary, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and the Chalmers Hospital. He served as Assistant Physician and later Physician to the Royal Infirmary. During this period he published work on the use of sulpho carbonates in infectious diseases. His other publications include 'Transfusion of human blood in the treatment of pernicious anaemia', published in the Edinburgh Medical Journal in 1892, and 'A new and portable form of spray producer', published in the Medical Times and Gazette in 1868. He died at 10 St Colme Street, Edinburgh, on 10 July 1895.
